Photoshoot: The Girls

I remember growing up with two older sisters. They were close and I was left chasing them. For a while my middle sister and I were close. I treasure those memories. Shooting my friends children reminded me of those summer nights hanging out with my sister. How cool I thought she was. She seemed to be the most beautiful girl I had ever seen and hope that I would grow up to be like her.

I had the girls hang out with one another as we spent sometime in the front yard. I found it easy to talk to both of them. I told them to pretend they saw a boy on a skate board falling, as soon as I said that they cracked up.

I then took them up to one of my favorite spots; the roof. The young one was a little scared but as soon as she saw her older sister go up fine, she gathered up her courage and followed along. It was beautiful seeing them interact with one another. They would tease one another and play fight. It was when I pretend I was messing with my camera was I able to capture some real moments. The young one would naturally lean in towards her older sister, and her older sister would let her.

When the older sister was just three years old, I remember her telling me how she wanted a young sister. It was nice to see them together and enjoying one another’s company.

Here are some of my shots from this evening.

Video: The Kids

Yesterday when I was sick I recorded my nephews. I don’t know if others will find this as entertaining as I but I find kids so creative. I thought it was pretty cool that David, my three-year old nephew, sat down and had a conversation with me.

Being Still.. It’s not so easy.

It’s interesting how hard it is to be still. Even watching Jacob, my nephew, it was hard for him to stay in one spot.

Today I woke up pretty stick. I slept most of the day but for a few hours when I was awake, my nephews were here visiting.
Strange thing is that my three year old nephew came in my room and hung out with me. As I laid in bed he began to tell me about his world. He saw a baby photo I had taken of him and we began to talk about growing up. I even witnessed him playing with his imaginary friend Jessie.

Being still wasn’t easy for me. As you can tell, I had my camera right next to me snapping photos. haha. Being sick makes you appreciate being healthy. It also teaches us to notice the small things in life that make it so great.

What is Beautiful

I don’t think we realize or appreciate the real beauty behind us all. We live life so fast, we don’t take the time to notice how complex and unique we all are.  We believe what is beautiful is what we see in advertisement or films, but what we all fail to do is ask the right questions about each other. What is beautiful to me is life. Through heartache or pain, celebration or victory, every event in our lives makes us who we are. It’s up to us if we let what happens in life destroy us or make us stronger.

I created these shots to suppose each thought in the poem. Enjoy.

Film: Behind the Beauty

This morning I woke up with the need to be creative in a fresh way. As I wrote some thoughts down, I suddenly imagined a short film in my head using film stills.

I would only have 24 exposure to capture the story.

It was interesting limiting myself. I knew what I wanted and I had to wait for it. Each frame was valuable.

Out of my 24 frames 6 were all I needed to tell the story. Today I had to create something honest and real.

“Create what you are most passionate about.”

Tomorrow I’ll post up the video.
