Photos: Capturing the Everydays

My favorite pictures to take are of my nephews. I love watching them play and interact with each other. They remind me of life’s greatest joy, having each other. When I arrived at my sister’s house I told David I was there to play and visit with him and Jacob (instead of using the babysitting term.) They welcomed me with open arms and allowed me in their world.

Its amazing when I think about the days when my sisters and I use to play together.  Time passes by so fast, if we don’t take the time to stop and notice, soon, the years would have passed by. Good thing for photos and video, they help us remember what we’ll probably forget. They capture the everydays.

Drive-by Shooting

Yesterday I spent the day bonding with my Canon 7D. I usually leave her at home because she takes away my attention. I turned on the mono preset for black and white shooting to make my random shooting interesting. It also allowed me to monitor my exposer. With the contrast, I could see right where the light was hitting.

We spontaneously went to LA yesterday for a Pink’s chili dog.  I started shooting out the window and made jokes like, “Drive by shooting in LA”. It also help me notice the city details.

When we went to Melrose for a walk I started to snap photos by holding my camera in front of me. At times I had no idea what I was shooting. I was breaking all the rules. The benefit of digital is you can snap as many photos as you want.

Black and White shoot

I decided to change what I was looking for during this shoot. I found the real change was in the editing room. When I was picking out the photos -the usual ones I would disregard I decided to keep and my normal shots, I disregarded.

I for one love color but I wanted different results so I went black and white. I wanted to capture the eyes attention and keep it. Black and white has that power.

Here is Olivia.

Color….. I couldn’t help myself. :)

Phillips Family Photos

How fast life changes. I went to high school with Nathan, and now he is married with two young boys. Just a few year ago Geo, Nathan, Veronica, Carlos and I were sitting on a life guard tower watching the sunset. Now here I was taking photos of Nate’s family. The cool thing is Nathan is still the same energetic person and now his oldest son is no different. We had but a few short moments to take photos before the sun went down.

Inspired by Film: Ronda Lopez

I was inspired by my double exposer images that I get when I shoot with my small film camera to try something new with my digital shots. I mixed, overlay and adjust the colors to match what I remembering seeing when I develop my film.
