Photos: David and Jacob

How boring life would be without these two boys in my life. My youngest nephew, Jacob turned a year old yesterday. To allow my sister to get ready for his party, David spent a night at our house. I somehow tricked him in to coming outside with me to do some photos. He decided he would give me a variety of expressions to choose from…which I loved.

David: 3 years old

Jacob: 1 year old

I can’t wait until Jacob learns to talk. I’m so curious to see what he will say. I can tell he is going to be the one observing everything. During his party he needed a nap but instead wanted to stay up to watch everyone.

Life: Bri’s Tea Party

I was invited to my first tea party. The girls and I kept making jokes about how feminine it was of us to drink tea and talk about our feelings. We loved every bit of it, finally we were allowed to giggle haha.

Happy Birthday Bri, it was great celebrating with you.

I used “Old Photo” filter in Lightroom to give it a classic look.

1983 – 28 years ago

Sometimes, I forget how fast time goes by. It’s not until I look at old photos do I realize how far I’ve come.

My 28th birthday is tomorrow. I know I am on a journey and I have not yet reached my destination. Though I’m not married and have no children yet, I am glad to be free to live anywhere in the world I wish. Next year I will finally make that move..which makes me very excited for 28.

Tuesday with Morrie by Mitch Albom talked about aging best.

“All this emphasis on youth-I don’t buy it. Listen I know what a misery being young can be, so don’t tell me its so great. All these kids who come to me with their struggles, their strife, their feelings of inadequacy, their sense that life was miserable, so bad they wanted to kill themselves.. And, in addition to all the miseries, the young are not wise. They have very little understanding about life. Who wants to live every day when you don’t know what’s going on? When people are manipulating you, telling you to buy this perfume and you’ll be beautiful, or this pair of jeans and you’ll be sexy-and you believe them! It’s such nonsense.”

Weren’t you ever afraid of growing old. I asked?

“Mitch, I embrace aging. It’s very simple. As you grow, you learn more. If you stay at twenty-two, you’d always be as ignorant as you were at twenty-two. Aging is not just a decay, you know. It’s growth. It’s more than the negative that you’re going to die, it’s also the positive that you understand you’re going to die, and that you live a better life because of it.”

Yes, I said, but if aging were so valuable, why do people always say, “Oh if I were young again.” You never hear people say, “I wish I were sixty-five.”

He smiled. “You know what that reflects? Unsatisfied lives. Unfulfilled lives. Lives that haven’t found meaning. Because if you’ve found meaning in your life, you don’t want to go back. You want to go forward. you want to see more, do more. you can’t wait until sixty-five.”

With that being said. I am thankful to turn 28. I share my life with beautiful people, who love me and who bring me so much joy. I can’t wait to see what this year has in store.

Happy Birthday Mom

My mom has always been mom. Even though I am 27 she still  looks for new ways to still take care of me. This morning, we met in the kitchen and I told her happy birthday. She said how she didn’t tell anyone at work that it was her birthday. I responded, “I do that too, I don’t like to broadcast it.” She laughed and said, “You’re turning in to me.” I smiled…it wouldn’t be so horrible to turn in to my mother.

My mom is great, she is the most loving and caring person but yet very bold and will tell you the truth if you ask for it. She goes out of her way to help people. I usually ask, “Why are you doing that for them, it’s not your problem.” She usually answers, “What if it was you or me, we would want help.”

In the recent years my mom and I have gotten along well. When I was a teenagers we had some rough time. I was a horrible listener and would disrespect her. I guess then I saw her as someone who didn’t know what I was going through. Thank goodness God has grace on us when we are teenagers. Now that I am older I see she knows what I am facing.  Most of all she cares deeply for my heart. She still looks out for it.

My mother and I (1983)

Today I can call my mom friend and I can spend the day with her without fighting. She reminds me that being successful isn’t having lots of money but having a family that loves God.

I asked her how old she is and she refused to tell me. I did the math and was happy to find out that when I’m her age, I’ll still look great.

Happy Birthday Mom, you are the funniest person I know.
